After Microsoft’s press conference for E3 2016, the company’s Xbox booth at the event allowed fans to play a plethora of demos, among them being game developer Koji Igarashi’s crowdfunded spiritual successor to the Castlevania franchise, which is known as Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. However, considering that a lot of the title’s Kickstarter backers were unable to attend this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, Igarashi and his team at Inti Creates are now making the forthcoming release’s E3 2016 demo build available to all fans who pledged $60 or more to the project.
Of course, with Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night still being in production, there are caveats involved when it comes to the demo. For instance, on top of the fact that Inti Creates are only offering fans the in-development build on PC, they should also expect to encounter a few bugs and glitches while taking part in the gameplay.
Each and every fan that filled out their Fangamer backer reward survey by the cut off date of June 13 should receive details on how to access the Bloodstained demo by June 27, as players should get a key via the email address used in the survey. If all goes according to plan, the game preview should be available for three months in total.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night‘s creator Koji Igarashi has asked fans to be mindful that the development team is currently in the process on smoothing out story cutscenes, a cutscene tutorial, adjustments to enemy and item placements, as well as a map screen with minimap. With this being the case, he pleads for fans to be patient in these features’ absence. Igarashi also acknowledged and appreciated those gamers that were able to make it out to E3 and try out Bloodstained, expressing positivity that the final product will be worth the wait.
“It was a great experience for us—watching such a wide variety of gamers play the build helped us uncover a lot of usability issues in the game. But the smiles on so many faces and the enjoyment everyone seemed to get out of the demo told us a lot of our initial ideas are good, which is exciting.”
Igarashi’s enthusiasm for Bloodstained‘s progression is well warranted. After all, upon its announcement, the game broke records to become the most-funded video game Kickstarter campaign ever with almost $4.5 million raised after hitting its stretch goals. Nevertheless, that particular throne was usurped when Shenmue 3 became the crowdfunding site’s most successful video game campaign.
At any rate, even though Bloodstained isn’t top dog when it comes to funding anymore, it shouldn’t diminish the quality of the gameplay. If anything, it’s a good sign that developers are allowing the title’s in-production demo to be played beyond the confines of a controlled environment like E3, as it shows confidence on the creators’ part that even with its flaws, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has the potential to become a great release in the end.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is set for release sometime in March 2017 for Linux, Mac, PC, PlayStation 4, PS Vita, Wii U and Xbox One.
