Information regarding Dead Space 2: Severed has been surprisingly sparse. First announced when Dead Space 2 launched on January 25, 2011, little has been revealed of the DLC until now. We know that it will feature two additional stand-alone single-player chapters which focus on Gabe Weller and Lexine Murdoch as they both attempt to escape from the Sprawl.
What we didn’t know is that because Gabe is a security officer, he not only has his own one-of-a-kind security suit, but also his own upgraded and more powerful plasma rifle. All the better since this adventure in the Sprawl will feature the return of Dead Space‘s terrifying Twitcher enemies. As you may recall, in Dead Space these enemies were the result of Marines being turned into Necromorphs on the USM Valor. This could mean that Gabe is going to be fighting against his own former fellow security officers.
With the announcement of the official release date also comes a brand new trailer for the previously mysterious DLC:
The trailer features Severed footage previously shown by Steve Papoutsis on his Questions with Steve YouTube segment. The DLC definitely doesn’t look like it’s just meant to be an add-on. The trailer is complete with some amazing imagery to set the tone for the two new chapters in what seems like a frantic escape.
The Twitcher looks as creepy as ever and is definitely a welcome addition to the creature roster of Dead Space 2. Unfortunately, it’s still looking like Lexine is just going to be a damsel in distress, but at least this time we’re dealing with a (relatively) real girl, right?
When we were told Dead Space 2: Severed was coming soon, I don’t think we expected the release date announcement to come just a week ahead of the content’s release. The DLC will be priced at 560 MS Points on Xbox 360 and $6.99 on PS3 when it hits next week. The decision to keep the DLC under $10 is an interesting one in an age where the valuation of downloadable content has been heavily debated by consumers.
Are you ready to return to the Sprawl in your super suit so you can take on another couple waves of Necromorphs?
Dead Space 2: Severed will be released March 1, 2011, for Xbox 360 and PS3.
