WoW Passes Fortnite On Twitch's Popular Games List

There’s no denying that Fortnite has been on top of the world in the video game community this year. It’s consistently one of the most streamed, played, and viewed games on Twitch and YouTube, but the launch of World of Warcraft’s latest expansion is ready to give it a short run for its money.

World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth launched yesterday and the game has quickly skyrocketed to the top of the Popular Games section on Twitch. New releases usually get a chance to have their time in the spotlight due to initial hype and curiosity, so it will be interesting to see how long WoW can hold onto the number one spot.

Here are the current rankings for Twitch’s most popular games at the time of writing this post…

Taking the lead over Fortnite 249,414 to 105,713 is quite a feat, even if it is only temporary. World of Warcraft has an incredibly strong brand power, but the fact that the core version of the game launched all the way back in 2004 and it is still alive and well (don’t worry, they’ve updated a ton of assets) says a lot about the quality of the MMO.

Players are currently racing towards max level and preparing to start the end-game content. It seems likely that the popularity of streaming the game will begin to fluctuate after most of the available content is completed. We’ll continue monitoring the game’s popularity on Twitch, so check back for updates.

Until then, for the Horde!

World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth is available now on PC.
