Last month, it was leaked that Fallout 76 would be adding a new mode called Nuclear Winter. Now Nuclear Winter has been officially announced by Bethesda, and as some predicted, Nuclear Winter will be a full-blown battle royale mode for Fallout 76. And it’s available in the game now.
The Fallout 76 Nuclear Winter battle royale mode will allow up to 52 players to battle it out in the game’s post-apocalyptic wasteland. The ultimate goal is to become the Overseer. Players will have a variety of weapons at their disposal to reach this goal, as well as Power Armor, turrets, and more. The Fallout 76 Nuclear Winter battle royale mode will even include nukes.
Based on the E3 2019 gameplay trailer for Fallout 76‘s Nuclear Winter battle royale mode, it seems as though there will be a couple of major ways it will stand apart from other battle royale games on the market. For example, it appears as though the Fallout 76 battle royale map will be filled with monsters players will have to contend with as well, plus it seems to have some kind of base-building, with players constructing defenses and turrets in the world.
Fallout 76‘s Nuclear Winter update is available now. Any Fallout 76 players will be able to jump in as soon as the update is available to them, as the content update is coming free of charge. And even those who have yet to buy Fallout 76 will have a chance to try the battle royale mode as well.
That’s because Bethesda is also hosting a free trial week for Fallout 76 from June 10 to June 17. This free trial will let players access the full breadth of Fallout 76‘s content, including the Nuclear Winter battle royale mode. So any battle royale fans tempted by the new mode can try it before they commit to buying the full game.
Whether or not the Fallout 76 Nuclear Winter update can win back lapsed fans remains to be seen. However, there’s no denying that it will give players something new to do and may give some a reason to return to the game.
Fallout 76 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
