The end of the Batman Arkham era has left a super hero-sized hole in the world of video games, but luckily Insomniac is on track to fill that void in 2018 with the PS4 exclusive Spider-Man. The AAA action game looks like it perfectly captures both the humor of Peter Parker and the fluid motion of Spider-Man. This is just the latest in a long line of Sony exclusives that make owning a PS4 a requirement for gamers who want to play every game of the year contender.

The God of War franchise is taking the Old Man Logan approach with this rebranding and the early gameplay footage hints that it was a wise decision. The father/son storyline is sure to tug at the heartstrings and will likely lead to some tears, but the classic large-scale action seems to still be as present as ever. This serious take on the franchise after it had risen to cartoony levels of sexuality and violence may be just what is needed to make God of War a must-play series once again.

The next numbered installment in this bloody franchise moves the terror right into the heartland of the United States. The game’s Montana setting generated a lot of buzz during its reveal and it will be interesting to see how the title balances a serious plot about homeland terrorism and its usual outlandish action sequences.

There’s no denying that the Anthem gameplay demo had everyone incredibly excited at E3, but gamers aren’t exactly thrilled with BioWare or Electronic Arts at this point. If the game delivers, it could be exactly what each company needs to get back in the good graces of its fans and wash the bad taste of Andromeda and Battlefront 2 out of their mouths. Hopefully, 2018 is a comeback year and Anthem leads the way.
Anthem is currently scheduled to release sometime in the fall of 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

It’s hard not to be excited about a game that is pitched as an anime-style Dark Souls. Code Vein may be a bit of a gamble, but if the mechanics work well, this could be one of the earliest hits of 2018. There’s a chance that the title’s buzz will die down by the time award season rolls around, but gamers still need something to play during the first half the year and this seems like a challenging and exciting option.
